The battery system of the future

Halogen is helping to find the smart solutions when fast boats are to switch from diesel to electric operation.

Speedboats will now be electrified. This is in line with the authorities' ambition for zero emissions from these vessels by 2025.

In this work, Halogen has supported Norled and Seam in the development of an autonomous – self-governing – battery exchange system.

Smaller battery packs

Due to the short berthing time of speedboats compared to the larger ferries, it is not appropriate to charge speedboats at the dock while passengers disembark and board.

The new solution therefore involves the use of smaller battery packs that are replaced at the dock.

Visual identity and product design

Halogen has led an iterative design process - a user-centred development process - to create the visual expression of the solution. This expresses both Norled's vision for the concept, while at the same time underpinning the function.

In addition to the physical design, Halogen has developed the system's identity including logo, color palette, typography and visualizations of use.
