SISAM (SIkkert SAMband) is a communication system used in aircraft and between civilian and military units that exercise airspace control in the total defence. NATO has also chosen the Norwegian-developed solution, which is now installed in all NATO operations centers for airspace surveillance.
In November 2020, the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency entered into a contract with Thales Norway AS (TNOR) to upgrade SISAM, P8055. The new system must be able to handle speech and interaction at different grading levels - a technology that Thales Norway has developed in R&D collaboration with the Norwegian Defence Research Institute (FFI), the Norwegian Armed Forces and Defence Material Administration (FMA).
To ensure ease of use and further increased operational capability, the upgraded SISAM has been developed with the user in focus. Halogen has assisted Thales with its expertise to ensure a user-centred design process. Halogen led the insight phase with user study and analysis, to lay the foundation for the user-centred development of the new SISAM. Furthermore, the development has involved users in an iterative process for sharpening the design.
The user interface that was designed in this project has laid the foundation for an extended design system for the GUI, which Halogen is now developing for Thales Norway.
